Squid Game‘s Lee Jung-jae Is Hoping for a ‘Twist’ in Possible Season 2: Predictable ‘Would Be No Fun’

star Lee Jung-jae knows that fans of the hit serial are clamoring for a 2d flavor — and he’southward got some ideas upwardly his sleeve for what’south to come up.
Though Netflix has yet to officially greenlight a season 2 of the Korean survival thriller, Lee, 49, tells PEOPLE in this week’due south result that he feels more episodes are in the cards, especially considering the show’s success and its open-ended season i finale.

“A second season has get inevitable in a manner,” he says. “I remember when we were shooting, I asked [creator Hwang Dong-hyuk] if there’d be a second flavor, and he said, ‘I don’t call up so. That’southward going to be very difficult.’ But we tin’t non do one now, because nosotros’ve received then much love all across the world.”

While Lee says that the prove creator has but just started planning what’s next — Hwang said in a recent interview that he’south currently “in talks” with Netflix for two more seasons — the show’s star is hoping for a plot that keeps the audience on its toes.

“I hope in that location’s some sort of twist that’ll exist exciting and surprising for me and the viewers,” Lee says. “If it was predictable, it would be no fun.”
The Seoul native, a longtime major moving picture star in South Korea, plays Seong Gi-hun, a cash-strapped gambling aficionado and male parent recruited to play a mysterious, deadly series of children’s games in exchange for a prize worth millions.
